Ain’t Blues

I ain't gonna break down in tears over you

I ain't gonna break down in tears over you

I ain't gonna pretend I care about you

Because I do

I really do

I ain't gonna lose sleep just because you're gone

I ain't gonna lose sleep just because you're gone

I ain't gonna pretend I don't want you gone

Because I don't

I really don't

I ain't gonna sit here sighing over you

I ain't gonna sit here sighing over you

I ain't gonna pretend that my sighs are for you

 Because they are

They really are

I ain't gonna say that I'll wait forever

I ain't gonna say that I'll wait forever

I ain't gonna pretend I won't stop waiting forever

Because I won't

I really won't

I ain't gonna claim that I love you the best

I ain't gonna claim that I love you the best

I ain't gonna pretend he can't love you better

Because he can't

He really can't

A blues song about the refusal to let go of the commitments of love, even when those commitments seem hopelessly doomed. I enjoyed playing with the little conceit of not pretending something, because it is so. I thought of this as a little lyric that didn’t amount to much but, once again, David’s musical imagination has given it epic qualities. I think having Aimee Reid’s voice on the track (David Reid’s idea) was a masterstroke.
